GIOVANNI SCAVETTA - ARTIST STATEMENT

Whether craftsman or sculpter, graphic designer or digital artist; my personal love affair with art belongs to the intricate qualities inspired by found objects. A passion which first began through making small pieces from real life 'junk' where hours would be spent filling, cutting and joining elements together into such things as strangely detailed insects. However, the ubiquitous technology of a computer age kept banging on my door, and my work of late is primarily digital. This in itself is a generic path for me as it still involves partly-made objects, and photographing them together with other textures, forms and still-life backgrounds; the joining of elements 'digitally' has brought a new lease of life and aesthetic which was previously impossible in the real world.

Increasingly these works have taken on a spiritual and narrative perspective; which aside from the merely decorative is something I am finding increasingly important and rewarding as an artist.
